A legacy of bringing people together

Suus Plesman, the wife of KLM founder Albert Plesman, was a quiet force in diplomacy and connecting people. Her trusted tool to build bridges and bring people together? A delicious meal.
In the 1930s, amid rising tensions between Albert and his KLM pilots, Suus offered a simple yet inspired idea: to invite everyone – from her husband to the pilots – to their kitchen table to share a hearty home-cooked meal with a glass of wine. Her only condition? That no one was leaving until peace was resolved!
The historic agreement that followed helped shape KLM’s future. And it was in no small part down to Suus’ warmth and hospitality, and how sharing food can lead to a shared understanding.
Today, Restaurant Suus continues her legacy by creating spaces where stories are shared, connections are made, and exceptional food brings people together.

A Historical Location at De Plesman Hotel

Located inside De Plesman Hotel, Restaurant Suus was once the canteen of employees at the headquarters of KLM. Set within a historical monument, many parts of the building have remained unchanged over time, preserving its original character. Today, this heritage is thoughtfully complemented by a curated mix of modern art and contemporary design, making the dining experience a unique journey where past and present come together.

Head Chef


Executive Chef Kyan van Bommel leads the kitchen at Restaurant Suus The Hague with a philosophy rooted in precision and passion. Having earned his stripes in renowned Bib Gourmand restaurants and previously leading his own Michelin-aspiring kitchen at Oogst, Kyan is a chef who believes in the power of connection. Within the walls of the former KLM headquarters, he bridges the gap between 1930s grandeur and contemporary dining. For Kyan, the “kitchen table” is where craft meets community, and every dish prepared to order is a testament to that legacy.

As our Restaurant Maître, Kaj Velleman is the heart of the guest experience at Restaurant Suus The Hague. With a distinguished background in the fine dining world, Kaj brings a deep knowledge of wine and a sharp eye for detail.
For Kaj, hospitality is about more than just service, it’s about making every guest feel cared for and ensuring that every visit to Restaurant Suus is effortless, elegant, and entirely memorable.

Recognized as a leading voice in the new generation of Dutch sommeliers, Priscilla van der Voort is dedicated to the art of the perfect pairing. At Restaurant Suus, she curates a dynamic wine list that complements our seasonal menu, ensuring every glass enhances the culinary journey.
